Foreign Covers

Did You Know…

Covers on foreign editions generally differ from those on U.S. editions. They may have new original artwork. They may even have artwork that originally appeared on another author's U.S. edition. Since artists license rather than sell their artwork to the publisher, they're free to license it to a foreign publisher, and often do.

Did You Know…

Sometimes the foreign publisher will even alter the original artwork to fit their own tastes. Consider my Deborah Martin cover for Dangerous Angel. The first image to the right is a cut out from the original U.S. cover. The second is a cut-out from the Russian back cover (the front cover has artwork from some other author's U.S. book). Notice how the Russians replaced the face of the American model (in this case, Steve Sandalis) with one that looks more Russian. I call this my Steve-to-Boris cover.

German Covers for SJ

Notice that the name of the author on my German covers is Deborah Martin. The Germans wanted it that way, since I'd already established a readership in Germany as Deborah Martin. To read reviews of German editions of both my SJ books and my original Deborah Martin books, visit
